April Founder’s Note: Building a Life You Don’t Need to Escape From

Updated: 5 days ago

A monthly reflection on wellness, work, and what it means to build a sustainable real estate career.

Have you ever thought about how easy it is to get caught in the loop of waiting for “after?" I've thought about that a lot lately. This doesn't just apply to business, but life in general. We get stuck thinking, "after this closing, after the spring market slows down, after I hit a financial goal." So on and so forth. Or maybe you tell yourself, "I'll get new headshots after I lose 5lbs, I'll start posting on social media more after I get more followers." You think "after," these things happen, then you can slow down and you'll have earned some rest.

Here's the problem with that mentality. “After” never really arrives. Even if it does, we’re often too depleted to really enjoy it. And when that happens, what’s the point of reaching milestones if we can’t even appreciate them? This is exactly why we need to learn how to weave in self-care, self-appreciation, and better work-life harmony into our everyday lives.

So I’m challenging you to stop hitting the pause button on life until things calm down or until things are "perfect." Life is happening now. Not after the next email. Not once your phone stops buzzing. I know it takes adjusting. Believe me, this is something that's always a work in progress for me. But once you change your mindset, it does become easier.

And hey, even if you're in the process of gaining momentum and building your business, you're still allowed to stop and take time to recharge. You don't have to wait until you close your first deal. It's stressful trying to get clients and gain momentum in this industry, and honestly, the best time to learn healthy habits is on the uphill battle.

If the version of “success” you’re building doesn’t include space for rest, joy, and boundaries, it might be time to take a step back and think about what success really means to you. We don’t have to build a life that’s only about chasing the next big deal or hustling endlessly. The goal is to create a life that we don’t feel the need to escape from.

In the meantime... Focus on what truly matters. And remember, you don’t have to wait for “after” to start living the life you’ve been working so hard to create.

Until next month...

Brittany
